Terpenes & Temperature

As we continue our exploration of terpenes, we’re going to take a look at how temperature affects these compounds, both in terms of their use and storage. If you missed our last blog, here’s where you can catch up!

Why Temperature Matters

Different burn temperatures and storage temperatures affect cannabis concentrates in different ways. Burning at the right temperature ensures that the plant’s cannabinoids and terpenes are accessible and working together, while too high a temperature can cause them to burn off and be lost.

“…Too high a temperature can cause them to burn off and be lost.”

Cannabis concentrates are known for their potent flavors, and terpenes play a big role in this. By understanding how temperature affects terpenes, you can better enjoy the flavor profiles of your dabs and vapes. As you explore cannabis concentrates, keep the temperatures below in mind. For example, if you had a Blue Dreams concentrate and you wanted to get the most flavor out of the dominant terpene Pinene, you would set your e-nail to 311°F.

If you’re just starting your journey with concentrates, remember the golden rule: Go low and slow to find your tolerance and enjoy responsibly.

Storage Temps Matter With Terpenes

To get the most out of your cannabis concentrates, it’s important to store them properly. Doing so can help to preserve potency, flavor, aroma, and effectiveness. When left out in the open air without storage, the quality of your extract can degrade significantly and its shelf life will be shortened.

If you want to keep your cannabis concentrate fresh and potent, remember to store it properly. Extremes of temperature can ruin dabs, so it’s best to find a happy medium. Too cold, and the cannabinoids will degrade. Too hot, and the terpenes will lose flavor. Make sure your storage container is airtight, as moisture can ruin your dabs. The best option is to find a cool, dark space to store your cannabis stash. You can keep your dabs in the fridge, but don’t put them in the freezer. It’s also important not to let the temperature get too low, even in the fridge. Please remember to always store your cannabis responsibly and safely, especially in a household with others present.

What about concentrates that are on display in-store? Agate Dreams recently added a fridge to preserve the freshness of concentrates before they get to you. We keep our collection away from direct sunlight and our new fridge helps keep more delicate products fresher for longer. Come take a look for yourself and ask our budtenders to learn more!
